How Tryps Does Egypt!

Egypt is a dream destination for all of us. We've been fantasizing about seeing the Pyramids since we were in elementary school. The rich history is undeniable. But what else does Egypt have to offer?

Kimo, our Egypt Trip Leader, is an Egyptian-Canadian who has a particular objective with this itinerary. He wants you to see the real Egypt not just from the perspective of a tourist but from that of a local. He'll guide you across the country where you'll visit all of the iconic sites and temples you've dreamed about. But, you're also going to experience things tourists can't normally access like sharing meals with locals in their home or camping with a Bedouin tribe in the desert. When you come back from this trip you will be changed and you will be forever connected with Egypt.

DAY 01

Welcome to Egypt!

Keep your eyes open as you land in Cairo for a chance to witness the Great Pyramids from the sky. When you arrive at the Cairo International Airport, the Tryps team will be there to guide you through customs to your private shuttle service escorting you to your hotel. On the ride, you’ll get your first glimpse at the hustle and beautiful chaos that is Cairo. On the first night, you’ll have a chance to settle into your room, meet your fellow adventurers and enjoy a nice welcome dinner in the heart of Cairo.

DAY 02

The Great Pyramids

Our own private Egyptologists will take us back 4,000 years and shed light on the architecture and significance of this World Wonder. During our visit you’ll channel your own Lawrence of Arabia as you ride camels in the open desert, view all 6 Pyramids and even enter inside one of them. Afterwards, we’ll stop for lunch at the picturesque Pyramid 9 Lounge. You’ll visit the Sphinx and the causeway which the ancient Pharaohs used to carry the dead. So much history all in one day! After some needed rest at the hotel, your Trip Leader will take you on a local night out in the town to explore the bar and club scene of one of North Africa’s most lively cities.

DAY 03

Ancient Treasures of Cairo

We start our day 1,000 years in the past as we visit the three most historic mosques of Old Cairo. After immersing yourself in the city’s history, we’ll break for lunch at a quaint, family owned restaurant where our dear friend Auntie Someya will prepare us a homestyle Egyptian meal - you will not leave hungry. Afterwards, we head to the labyrinth-like bazaar known as Khan El-Khalili in the historic center of Old Cairo. Hundreds of narrow alleys and local shops filled with handmade crafts, textiles, carpentry, mint tea and shisha smoke. The evening will be spent haggling with shop owners, sipping tea and enjoying traditional music and dance.

DAY 04

Off The Beaten Path

We leave the crowds and the city behind and head deep into the Western Desert of Egypt. Upon arrival, we will be greeted by Helal, an indigenous Bedouin Tribe Leader, who will host us for the next 2 days as we immerse ourselves in their nomadic culture. After a quick lunch, our guides take us off-roading through the desert across the sand dunes. We’ll bathe in two natural hot springs and hike to the best sunset viewpoint in the area. After returning back to our lodge, Helal and his family will prepare us a traditional mandi - the ancient bedouin ritual of slow-cooking meats under the sand for hours.

DAY 05

The White Desert

What is described as the most magical place in Egypt - The White Desert - where centuries of sandstorms and crystal-storms have changed the colour of the rock to a perfect snow-white. Today will be a full day of desert exploration - offroading in our land cruisers, sandboarding the dunes and visiting a palm tree oasis. Finally, we’ll set up our campsite in the depths of the White Desert. Now, we simply soak in the quiet serenity as the sun sets across the open horizon. All that’s left to do is appreciate the sublime star-lit desert night sky.

DAY 06

Passage to Luxor

We depart from the desert back to Cairo to catch our flight to the city of Luxor, also known as the world’s largest open-air museum home to some of Egypt's most famous temples, tombs and monuments. Most of the day will be consumed with travel. Once we land in Luxor, we’ll check in to our hotel and explore the local bazaars and walk the boardwalk along the Nile.

DAY 07

Tracing Pharaohs and Temples

You’ll spend the morning relaxing by the pool overlooking the Nile river. In the afternoon, we will trace the steps of the Egyptian Pharaohs starting with a visit to the ancient Karnak Temple. Located on the east bank of the Nile River, Karnak is the second largest temple in the world, considered the most impressive example of ancient Egyptian architecture. Dedicated primarily to the god Amun, the temple was constructed over a period of more than two thousand years. We’ll then follow the ancient procession of sphinx statues that link Karnak Temple to the nearby Luxor Temple. Rest assured, by the end of today you'll have an honorary degree in Egyptian History!

DAY 08

Journey to the Afterlife

Waking before the crack of dawn, we will witness the most beautiful sunrise that North Africa has to offer - from a hot air balloon soaring above the Valley of the Kings! Afterwards, we’ll descend into the three underground tombs of ancient pharaohs - with a chance to see the most famous tomb in the world, Tutkhumoon (a.k.a. King Tut!). As you enter, the walls are covered with intricate hieroglyphics and artwork that have survived for thousands of years. You'll be transported back in time, and gain a unique insight into the beliefs, traditions, and practices of one of the world's most fascinating ancient civilizations. We wrap up the evening by traveling to our next destination, Nubia Aswan.

DAY 09

Land of Nubia

We will stay on our own private island on the Nile River - this Eco Lodge is owned and managed by the indigenous Nubian community. The food prepared for us will be locally sourced and the warmth and hospitality of our hosts is unmatched. The Nubian culture is over 10,000 years old and is one of the earliest African civilizations. You’ll get immersed in the culture as you visit the neighbouring island communities and share a traditional meal with a local Nubian family in their home. We’ll also explore the beauty and hidden secrets of the Temple of Isis which was built in honour of Isis -Egyptian Goddess of magic and wisdom.

DAY 10

Sailing the Sands of Time

Here, we will explore the allure of the Nubian Village, roam through their bazaars and take in the culture. We’ll then enjoy a beautiful sunset along the Nile from our own private sailboat. Once the sun is down and the moon is out, we will end the night with an authentic Nubian Farewell Party guaranteed to make your body move to the local melodies. At this point, you can scratch Egypt off your bucket list with gusto!

DAY 11

Journey Back Home

We pack our bags and say our goodbyes. But in just 11 days, you’ll have experienced a month’s worth of adventure - camelback journeys amidst the Great Pyramids, to savouring the richness of local cuisine and haggling with local merchants, to camping in the Western Desert under a blanket of stars, to learning about the most mysterious and awe-inspiring civilizations known to humanity. Inshallah, you will return home with a deep sense of connection to Egypt and its people, and you’ll have shared this life-changing adventure with a community of travelers you now call friends.
